Best Summer Cocktail Recipe | THE HUGO

Hugo is like my new best friend.

If you haven't heard of Hugo yet, you can't possibly be European. For about a year now Hugo is on everybody's mind in this part of the world. He came into our lives so suddenly, but managed to sweep us off our feet even more quickly. I can't remember life without him really.

Hugo and I hang out a lot in the summer months. He is refreshingly sweet and cool at the same time. He listens patiently and always manages to relax me after a long day at the office. He brings people together. And to tell you the truth, he's immensely delicious. Visually and otherwise!

I could have him for breakfast, lunch and dinner - if you know what I mean!

Ok, I'm just gonna stop myself right there, no need to go down that route. Any further.

Unfortunately, Hugo is not my hot lover boy from Italy traveling through Europe on his mountain bike. Topless of course.

Instead, Hugo is an alcoholic beverage that probably originated somewhere in Italy but who knows really, and as of last year, is the hottest summer aperitif in most German-speaking countries.

But let me tell you, that will not keep him from being my summer fling yet again!

Served in wine glasses or jars for a touch of hipster, this blend of prosecco, elderflower, lime and mint is perfect for any true wine lover, as much as your next-door mojito buddy.

The sweetness of the elderflower syrup and the acidity of the lime make this what I believe to be the best thirst-quencher to bring to any barbecue. Paired with a juicy steak, a fresh garden salad or a cheese plate, you can't really go wrong with this. It all works.

And Hugo, you can trust me on that, will soon become everybody's favorite guest at any outdoor cookout!

Admittedly, I don't drink much. But when I do get my hands on an alcoholic beverage, I go hard let me tell you.

Just kidding, I go for something light and refreshing, only slightly intoxicating. Something my pallet agrees on and that looks pretty. Preferably shaken, not stirred. A cocktail umbrella is no must, but I won't object to fruity garnish and pretzels on the side.

The Hugo pretty much ticks all those boxes. So what are you waiting for? Fire up the grill and get out the shaker. Summer is nearly here and Hugo cannot wait. And neither can I.

  1. Looks very good!! I really like elderflower and mint, is there a mocktail option as well?
Next time I will try this one with a new snack that I posted on my blog.
