You might remember my earlier blog post in which I introduced my family of notebooks. The moleskin sextuplets however were so undeniably identical that as a new mom I found the time had come to give these little ones some names.
One was named ‘Recipes’, the other ‘Stories’. I decided on ‘Crafts’ for the third…

And so, ever since, I am happy to say that I have been able to tell these little rascals apart quite easily.

However, since I am somewhat obsessed with note-taking I have recently decided to introduce two more notebooks to the family. Another set of twins so to speak.

Now while the sextuplets are really quite well behaved and know their place, the twins are pretty much all over the place! Anything that happens or comes to mind is scribbled onto their many many pages and their content never really seems to fit any theme.

This is why I decided not to label the twins, but to let them be the free spirits they are and to simply give them a cute makeover:

I have been digging geometric art lately, so I decided to go with a love-heart motif composed of a collage of triangles.

After sketching out my design, I got out an older magazine (in this case the February issue of InStyle), a pair of scissors, and cut out scraps of the most funky looking fabrics/clothing designs I could find.

This is also when I realized that I wanted to go with a colorful love-heart for one of the notebooks and a black-and-white one for the other. (Kind of Fifty-Shades-of-Grey-esque if you ask me. Might just call this one Christian. No telling what I will be taking notes on though…)

I then traced the love heart onto the notebook by layering a sheet of carbon tracing paper facing downwards in between the notebook on the bottom and the paper with the design on top, and retracing the outer boarder of the heart with a pencil. This way, the carbon sheet transfers the design onto the underlying notebook.

I used the same technique to transfer all the little triangles onto the magazine scraps (no system here!), cut them out and glue them onto their rightful place on the notebook with a glue stick.

(I feel like I learned a lot about this year’s spring fashion through this project.)

(One of the crazy colorful outfits was designed by Jeremy Scott and worn by Miley Cyrus by the way. Can you guess which one?)

(I might just name that notebook Miley then. Miley and Christian, perfect!)

Also, may I just mention that I am not entirely sure what happened here. Why I am creating some weird notebooks-equal-octuplets-metaphor I do not know! Must be my unconscious trying to tell me something. Or my biological clock (urgh I hate it when people use that phrase). Or I’m simply going mad. Take your pick.

Funnily enough I did recently take an online test (don’t ask why, some days I just am a sucker for these things) which indicated that I was destined to have eight children. Which are clearly at least twice as many as I ever signed up for.

When I told my mom on the phone that day though, ready to have a good laugh, my mom simply retorted, ‘That would suit you’.

Do you ever have one of those moments in which you are baffled about the way others seem to perceive you, and wonder why it is so different from the way you perceive yourself?

Yeah, that was one of them moments right there.

:) x Motte

    1. I actually never considered myself much of a writer, but this is actually so much fun so thank you for the acknowledgement, Melly! I'm glad you're enjoying it!

I kind of missed St. Patrick's this year, it's true, but I'll definitely get on that for next year! It's actually my mom's birthday that same day, so as I got older I tried to get away from the green really. (Kind of think she's over the clover-shaped presents too...) But I'll get the green back out for next year I promise! :) x Motte
