You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen,
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?
Yes. Yes, I do.
I mean, his nose is red. Freakin' red! And he doesn't even have a cold! And as far as I'm informed, he doesn't have a part-time job as a circus clown throwing pies in people's faces and giving little children nightmares.
Though it would make sense.
What do Santa's reindeer do between December 25th and November 30th?? I assume they have high-intensity interval training all through December, but what about the other 340 days of the year? Surely they don't spend all of their time doing high knees and lunges. And I can't quite imagine them in the Elves' workshop making toy trains and teddy bears. With their hooves.
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names,
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games.
Look, I am totally 100% against bullying - not cool guys! -, but the other reindeer can't all be that bad? I mean, they have names like Comet, Cupid and Dancer! There must be something worth mentioning about them also?
Like they're really quick on their feet, are particularly loving, or a champ on the dance floor!
At the very least, they will be supportive, reliable and have a great sense of direction!
Plus, they were selected by Father Christmas himself to go through the daunting task of transporting the old man around the entire world in just a few hours to make sure every little boy gets his gameboy, and every little girl a My Size Barbie.
Is that what kids are asking for these days?
Come to think of it, the cuddly quadrupeds probably just sleep through the remaining 11 months of the year - I bet they can use it, the sleep!
Santa really should think about keeping up with the times - invest in a motor for that sleigh or something.
So this year, I would like to pay tribute to Santa's lesser known reindeer - the other hard workers and trusted friends.
With some left-over washi tape I whipped up my very own Prancer gallantly flouncing around my bedroom wall.
Look at him. So dashing! I mean prancing!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
a sheet of paper
a pencil
a ruler
printer (optional)
template (optional)
a sheet of transparency foil
a permanent marker with a thin tip
a light source
tape
1-2 rolls washi tape
scissors (optional)
Step 1: Start by drawing the outlines of your design onto a piece of paper with a pencil. Using a ruler, straighten all of the lines to create more geometric shapes. Add more lines within the outline. Do so by connecting points and elongating some of the outer lines towards the middle.
Alternatively, you can simply print off the template above.
Step 2: Place the paper with your finished design underneath a sheet of transparency foil and trace the design onto the foil with a permanent marker.
Step 3: Stick the transparency foil with your design onto a light source such as a flashlight, tripod or lamp that is facing the wall. Once you've switched off any other lights, the design will be projected onto the wall. The closer the light stands to the wall, the smaller the design will appear. Adjust accordingly. Play around with different light sources for the optimal result as some lights might be too strong and fade out the design.
Tip: The design should be small enough to fit within the light cone of your light source. As you can see above, Prancer was a little too large for the tripod light so I had to keep re-adjusting and eye-ball some of his features.
To reduce the size of your image to fit perfectly, scan and print off in a smaller scale before transferring the design onto the transparency foil.
Step 4: Following the projection on the wall, add strips of washi tape to transfer the design onto your wall. No worries, it can be removed easily.
Cut out little hoof prints and stick to the floor for added cuteness.
Then how all the reindeer loved him,
As they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
You'll go down in history!
Which of Santa's reindeer will you have galloping around your apartment this year?
That is such a great idea! I might even have the perfect Christmas washi tape for it. Thanks for sharing it. :)
